Cole and I are back in New York for Christmas and together for the first year on Christmas Day! We also are blessed to have my niece Baby April with us this year for her first Christmas. It's a very happy holiday and I'm feeling full of cheer. I mean, just look at the cover of our local newspaper. It's the happiest breaking news ever.
My mom and I decided to make Bûche de Noël together this year after years of admiring the photo below in Tartine Cookbook.
The Yule Log is a chiffon cake painted with coffee syrup, spread with an espresso buttercream, then rolled up & covered in "bark" or chocolate ganache with sliced almonds. We decorated it with meringue mushrooms and a little frosty snow (powdered sugar and luster dust). It's delicious and beautiful. Here is ours in front of the Christmas Tree.
And another shot, on the dining room table.
Merry Christmas, Everyone! Hope it was a happy one for all!
