Oreos & Milk Cookie Bar for Madie & Alex's Wedding!

Madie & Alex are married!   It was such a beautiful & FUN celebration.  I was a bridesmaid, along with six other lovely ladies, who I feel lucky to have been able to get to know better over the past year.  Cole was the photographer, along with his dad.  They did an incredible, incredible job.   {{OMG.  Another infamous wedding slideshow by Valehere}}. I didn't make the cake, but I did help Madie channel her ideas and inspiration into a unique & specific cake design.  Her cake was done by Sweet Adeline Bakeshop (Berkeley, CA).  It was actually quite fun to have a little in personal "wedding cake design consultation" with Madie.  After our talk, Cole helped me transfer my cake sketch onto the computer, which I sent to Madie to give to her bakery.  The color, which Madie officially assigned as "Citron" was super important to get just right, since Madie is pretty color sensitive, particularly with this particular hue.

...and BAM!  Here is Madie & Alex's Wedding Cake!!  Sweet Adeline did a FABULOUS job.  Seriously, so impressive!  And it was sooooo yummy, too!

What I did get to make for Madie  & Alex's wedding was a "midnight-ish snack".... Homemade Oreos! Madie & Alex knew all about the Oreos, but I surprised them a bit with the presentation.  I decided it would be one less thing for Madie and Alex to worry about, but a nice little surprise to have it decorated and styled in a fun way that would fit in their theme.  And, it was late enough in the night that I wasn't stepping on any toes.  (My initial fear/hesitation was that you can just surprise people with wedding decor...)  I also tried to go with things I though Madie & Alex would like, and not go overboard with what my inner table scheme demons were egging me on to embrace (ie. nautical, nautical, nautical!!).  I played with colors (coastal blues and citron green), a few natural elements (i.e. sand in the sea glass green hurricane vases and sticks to help hold up a festive banner) and used circles (like the cookies and the shape of the table I knew we'd be using) as a sub-theme.

I'll break down a few of my favorite details from the Cookie & Milk Dessert Bar.

A felt polka-dot garland to hang above the cookies (an element of height) was handmade by my sister, Lauren, who has her own Etsy Shop (Littlest Dove Designs).  My sister takes color seriously.  So does Madie!  I respect people who take color seriously, so I do my best to be precise.   My sister wanted some suggested colors for the polka dot felt garland, so I made this little color guide & emailed it to her.  Ignore my typos, but admire my pretty presentation.

And a few days later, I received this perfect, festive garland in the mail!  I loved it and was so inspired to get the rest of the table decor.

PS - I wanted to genuinely purchase this from my sister, and she let me pretend that I was buying it.  But when it came in the mail, this creepy ransom note was included.  It still makes me laugh.  Just, ridiculous.   How many April naps did it take to make this, I wonder?

Vale ordered Ty Pennington Impressions Chartreuse Lace Fabric (which was one of Madie's "early wedding pins/color inspiration") and Vicki sewed it into a square tablecloth for the round table.  I made these cake pedestals.   The bases are (were) pewter candle sticks.  I painted them with a nice smooth, semi-glossy white acrylic paint.  I attached pretty round porcelain plates (8.75" and 11" in diameter) as the cake plates.  They were the perfect thing for presenting oreos in the form of a cake, which was the plan from the start.

Blue and grey paper straws and these Blue and White Marrimeko paper napkins from Crate & Barrel were essential for the oreo eating & milk drinking, and an easy way to throw in pops of color.

I also gave two Straus Creamery glass milk bottles a little makeover so they would be specially assigned to the new Mr. & Mrs.  I painted circles on them using that acrylic paint from the cake stands, then I used gold paint marker to write the letters & draw a border around the white circle.  The white paint successfully cover up the permanent Straus logo on the milk bottles.

I love the last two pictures!  Cole did such a killer job with all the wedding photos & Vale put together an EPIC slideshow, so if you're enjoying these, I really encourage you to go watch that slideshow now!

Cole also designed Madie & Alex's wedding invitations and wedding favors & paper good, which I partially photographed today, just to give you a little taste.  The bride watercolored the invitation backing herself, which was such a unique & special touch.    I think the whole suite looks AMAZING!   Between Madie's wedding and ours, I think Cole is officially open for business for custom wedding invitation/branding jobs.  Seriously, email him.  Cole [at] stipovich [dot] com.  :)
