In addition to the Mermaid Cookies for Isabella's Birthday Party, Maria also wanted to bring in a special treat for Isabella to share with her classmates on her birthday at Notre Dame des Victoires Church and Elementary School. Maria thought it would be a fun idea to incorporate the school mascot/logo/emblem, which is a dragon. Maria snapped this photo of something she found in the school store so that I had a visual.
I was having a heck of a time piping them at first. A combination of my hand sort of cramping up, plus the navy royal icing not cooperating, and the difficulty of the dragons free-form shape and small cookie surface area... In order to get them done on time and ensure they would be dry when Maria came to pick them up, I had to make the call to switch over to hand-painting. I don't have a photo of the hand piped ones her but here are the painted ones. Luckily, they came out OK, all things considered!
