Tulip Cake for Wind in the Willows Preschool Auction

Maria came to me for another cake for this year's Wind in the Willows Preschool Auction.  I made a 4-layer 10 inch cake (I think it was about 4.5 inches tall) chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream.  The design was left up to me, which is always fun.  Maria did say that the theme this year for the auction was "A Place to Grow", which I thought was a great theme to work with.  Spring is in the air and I have flowers on the brain.  Tulips, in particular, which are one of my favorite springy flowers.  I often look to some of my favorite stationary companies for design inspiration, and I immediately found something on Snow & Graham that I loved and it got my wheels turning. Here is my little Snow & Graham Tulip inspiration board.

Snow & Graham has a few different tulip designed products.  My favorites with this particular design are the wrapping paper and birthday cards.  The May 2012 Wall Calendar photo is from Greer Chicago and the wrapping paper close-up photo is from Paper Mojo.

Here is what I sketched.
